What is a Gore-Tex Jacket?

GORE-TEX achieves waterproof protection through a specialised membrane structure that blocks external moisture while remaining breathable. The membrane contains billions of microscopic pores that are small enough to prevent rain and wind from entering the jacket.

At the same time, these pores are large enough to allow moisture vapour produced by the body to escape. This balance prevents water from penetrating the jacket while reducing internal condensation, helping maintain comfort during movement.

What is the difference between Gore-Tex and other waterproof materials?

Most generic waterproofs are made from polyurethane, PVC, rubber or vinyl materials. Some other waterproofing materials have a waterproof coating that must be reapplied often to keep them waterproof. These materials are often fully waterproof but aren't as flexible or comfortable as Gore-Tex, due to their breathability and flexibility.

Is a Gore-Tex jacket breathable?
